Welcome to the Stress Resilience Results Spotlight™ in this series on extreme stress and the digestive system.

Stress-Digestion

In this issue, Dr. Datis Kharrazian highlights key areas of support to help combat the effects of stress, with particular emphasis on the digestive system.† He expands his discussion into neurotransmitter support, based on patient mood profile.

† Individual results may vary.

Now it’s easy to be “in the know” with FM Spotlight.

Each issue will have a research, clinical, or results theme that will be directly applicable to your practice and your patients’ health.

FM Spotlight - Stress Resilience Results Spotlight

Dealing with high stress has become a regular part of life for many people.

In our most recent Research Spotlight, we presented a wealth of science to demonstrate the serious effects of prolonged or extreme stress on the body, especially the digestive system.

Information about the underlying mechanisms involved in the stress response and the kinds of consequences those stress-related neurological and functional changes have in both the short- and long-terms was presented.

Dr. Kharrazian’s informative interview in the Research Spotlight made it clear that improving patient resilience to stress is critical for clinical effectiveness, especially in our current environment. There is a priority to move the body away from the catabolic, sympathetic-dominant state of “fight-or-flight” and toward better homeostasis before addressing other health concerns. As discussed, this can be achieved through supporting balanced sympathetic/parasympathetic (“rest & digest”) activity along with decreasing the circulation of catecholamines and supporting adrenal function/cortisol homeostasis in patients experiencing prolonged or extreme periods of stress.

In this short video, Dr. Datis Kharrazian discusses nutritional strategies that have enabled him to support stress resiliency in his patients:
