Welcome to our 1st Clinical Spotlight!

We are proud to offer you this new means to receive cutting-edge information in support of your practice.

We are teaming up with Datis Kharrazian, PhD, DHSc, DC, MS, MMSc, FACN and other Functional Medicine experts to bring you exciting new research, clinical jewels, and formula considerations via FM Spotlight.

Now it’s easy to be “in the know” with FM Spotlight.

Each issue will have a research, clinical, or results theme that will be directly applicable to your practice and your patients’ health.

Cross-Reactivity in the Brain

As patients begin to venture outdoors after the coronavirus lockdown, they may suffer some effects of environmental allergens.

In this first Research Spotlight, we are presenting exciting evidence about compounds that dampen the immune response to environmental triggers while addressing effects on related systems.

Immunologic Reactions to the Environment May Cause an Overactive Histamine Response

Histamine is a bioactive inflammatory mediator that is involved in both innate and adaptive immune responses. In an adaptive immune response, environmental triggers such as pollen, ragweed, dust, and certain foods activate the release of histamine through the binding of IgE antibodies to receptors located on mast cells. Histamine release leads to constriction of airway smooth muscle, dilation of vascular tissue, and initiates a systemic inflammatory cascade through cytokine release.

An overactive histamine response may occur when a continued immunologic reaction to environmental triggers causes perpetual histamine release. This process leads to histamine buildup, also known as a high histamine load.

Clinical Relevance of the Histamine Response

In this short video, we will explore nutritional strategies for individuals with a high histamine load. Here, Dr. Aaron Newman, DC, MSN, FNP-C, RN, an Apex Energetics’ Practitioner Advisor, shares specific clinical insights that can be applied to your practice today!
